Police in Kabete on Monday evening 1 May 2023 recovered the body of a man who went missing a week ago from Mauo Dam.

The man, identified only as Mr Njenga, had gone missing and his family had launched a search for him.

On Monday, locals in Kabete spotted a body floating in the dam and quickly alerted the police, who supervised the recovery of the body from the water.

The incident comes just a day after police launched investigations after the body of Mr Johnson Githieya was found floating in a river over the weekend.

A police source told Nairobi News that the deceased was the son of a local politician and that the family had already confirmed this.

Locals in Kabete said the body was seen by people passing by the river and they decided to pull it out of the water.

“We were then shocked to see that he was a person we know so well as he was very active during the last elections,” said Mr Benjamin Kioko, a local.

Another local, Ms Nelson Kimani, said that when they removed the body from the river, there were no physical injuries.

He said the deceased was always friendly and they used to call him by his alias Cool because he was gentle.

“The police should just tell us what led to the death of this man, he was very friendly and we really want to know what happened,” he said.

The deceased’s family has already started organising meetings ahead of his burial at their home in Mwimuto village in Gituamba, Kabete, Kiambu County.

The incident comes barely a week after another man’s body was found floating in the Nairobi River near Chiromo mortuary.
