Police in Kirinyaga are investigating the cause of death of a 50-year-old man whose body was found in River Kamweti in Gichugu on Thursday evening.

The deceased John Kabengi, who hails from Kariru village is said to have gone missing on Wednesday, forcing the family to commence a search for him.

According to relatives of the deceased led by Stanley Njeru, the body was discovered by residents who were fetching water near Kamweti Falls in Mucagara village.

“We were called by women who were fetching water because we had asked residents with information of his whereabouts to inform us,” Moses Bundi, a relative said.

Faith Wairimu added: “We have been having sleepless nights looking for our brother in vain in Gichugu.”

Gichugu sub-county DCI Millicent Ochuka confirmed the incident saying the police are investigating the cause of the death.

“We have launched an investigation. We don’t know whether he was sick but the family will tell us,” Ochuka said.

The deceased’s body was retrieved and taken to Kibugi Funeral home in Kutus pending a postmortem.
