Sombre moods engulfed Kelengei area, in Bomet County after 37-year-old son allegedly hacked his father to death while demanding the balance of the money he had received from the recent disbursement of Inua Jamii cash transfers.
Leonard Kipngetich reportedly picked a quarrel with his father, Joseph arap Oricho, 74, before he locked him inside his house and used a Panga to kill him.
The elderly man had deep cuts on the neck, head and legs, and succumbed after bleeding profusely.
According to Makimeny location senior assistant chief Paul Bett, members of the public who heard the loud screams of Oricho rushed to the scene and arrested the suspect. The deceased called for help, pleading with his son to spare him.
Bett added that the suspect’s clothes and gumboots had blood spills and the murder weapon is yet to be found.
Chepalungu Sub-county police commander Phanton Analo confirmed the incident, saying the suspect has been arrested and currently held at Bomet police station.
The body of the deceased has since been moved to Longisa County Referral Hospital mortuary.
