A family in Wi-Rakuom village in Ndhiwa constituency, Homa Bay county is mourning the death of their 15-year-old boy who was electrocuted.
While confirming the incident, the area assistant chief Alphonse noted that the boy, Castro Odhiambo, died by electrocution after he grabbed a live wire while playing with friends at a neighbour’s home.
The administrator noted that the boy used a wooden rod to touch the wire hanging by the neighbour’s fence.
Family members who spoke to a local publication noted that they rushed to the scene after the kin screamed in distress shortly after he was electrocuted.
When they arrived at the scene they found the grade seven pupil lying unconscious and rushed him to a nearby hospital. However, the deceased was pronounced dead.
His body was moved to a nearby morgue.
14-year-old electrocuted to death
The latest comes barely months after a 14-year-old boy in Hamisi, Vihiga county was electrocuted while pruning a tree.
Confirming the incident, Makuchi Assistant Chief Seth Jiveti noted that one of the branches fell on the cables and electrocuted the boy.
“The tree is near electricity cables. One of the branches fell on the cables and electrocuted the boy,” the administrator said.
Following the incident, the administrator urged parents to discourage their children from undertaking such risky activities.
