A 17-year-old boy is cooling his heels in police cells after sneaking into a ranch in Gilgil, Nakuru county, and damaging an aircraft belonging to a local businessman.
According to a police report seen by K24 Digital, the minor identified as David Chege made his way into the ranch located in Ndume area at around 9:30 am on Friday, March 24.
The owner of the ranch, Peter White, told the police that Chege headed straight into the hangar where the light aircraft — registration number 5Y-AZA and make PA25 — used to spray crops on local farms was parked, boarded into the cabin and started its engine.
“A stranger male Juvenile who confirmed his name as David Chege aged about 17 years, walked into the compound of the said ranch and boarded into the cabin of the said aircraft parked at the yard and started its engine at the hanger and taxed it but did not take off,” the report reads in part.
The intruder hit the edge of a live fence and the aircraft engine went off.
As a result of the impact, the propeller and front curling of the plane were damaged. However, the suspect escaped unhurt.
Chege was apprehended and detained at Gilgil Police station for interrogation.
“The suspect escaped unhurt and is in police custody aiding investigations,” police added.
