Liverpool are reportedly gearing up for a major summer transfer swoop, with Bayern Munich’s Kingsley Coman emerging as a key target. The news comes just days after the Reds clinched the Premier League title, giving new manager Arne Slot a solid foundation to begin shaping the squad in his image.

Although Liverpool still have four Premier League matches left to play this season, the club’s transfer plans are already in motion. For Slot, who played a conservative hand during his first window, this summer presents the first real opportunity to make a bold statement in the market.

Last summer, his only significant acquisition was Federico Chiesa from Juventus. However, the Italian has struggled for game time, managing just 33 minutes of league football so far. This summer, Slot is expected to be far more active as he attempts to craft a side capable of defending the title and competing in Europe.

Key to Slot’s vision will be both smart signings and calculated sales. Players like Trent Alexander-Arnold, Darwin Núñez, and backup goalkeeper Caoimhín Kelleher are reportedly up for potential transfers to balance the books and make room for new faces.

Among the most high-profile names on Liverpool’s radar is Kingsley Coman, a serial winner with Bayern Munich who is reportedly open to a fresh challenge. According to Caught Offside, Liverpool are currently showing the “strongest interest” in the 28-year-old winger.

Coman has had a mixed season under Vincent Kompany at Bayern. While he has tallied seven goals and four assists, he’s only featured for 1,127 minutes across all competitions. In contrast, Liverpool’s Cody Gakpo has played over 1,600 minutes and has a similar goal contribution — highlighting the efficiency Coman could bring if given a bigger role.

Liverpool’s interest in Coman isn’t just about statistics — it’s about pedigree. The Frenchman has 13 league titles to his name across spells with PSG, Juventus, and Bayern. Remarkably, he even won two league titles in a single season (2015/16) when he moved from Juventus to Bayern mid-season.

Coman’s reported asking price is around €40 million (£34 million), which seems like a bargain for a player of his calibre and experience. However, his wages — a staggering £277,000 per week — could pose a serious challenge. Liverpool, under their current wage structure, would likely be reluctant to break the bank unless Coman is guaranteed a regular starting role.

Yet, there’s growing belief within Anfield that Coman could serve as a direct replacement for Diogo Jota, who has been linked with a summer exit. Injuries have plagued Jota in recent seasons, and while he’s still a fan favourite, the club may be looking to cash in before his value declines.

Coman’s potential arrival would add elite pace, width, and experience to Liverpool’s front line, complementing stars like Mohamed Salah and Luis Díaz. More importantly, it would offer tactical flexibility for Arne Slot, who prefers fast, technical wingers to stretch defences.

Competition for Coman is fierce. Tottenham Hotspur, Arsenal, and several ambitious clubs from the Saudi Pro League have reportedly expressed interest. But as things stand, Liverpool appear to be the frontrunners in formalising a proposal.

His contract with Bayern runs until 2027, but the Bundesliga giants are believed to be open to selling him this summer, especially as Kompany begins his own squad rebuild. The financial implications of his wages and possible transfer fee make this a delicate deal, but not an impossible one.

For Liverpool, signing Coman would not only signal their continued ambition post-Klopp — it would also send a message to rivals that the new era under Arne Slot is one of evolution, not regression.

There’s also the marketing and commercial appeal to consider. Coman, as a France international with a global fanbase, could significantly boost Liverpool’s visibility in European and Asian markets, adding off-the-pitch value to the deal.

Sources close to Anfield believe that the club is laying the groundwork for a formal bid as soon as the current season concludes. If successful, Coman would join Liverpool’s pre-season preparations in July, giving Slot ample time to integrate him into the squad.

With just two years left on his contract, Bayern might be tempted to sell now rather than risk losing him for less next year. For Liverpool, this presents a strategic opening to secure a world-class player at a reduced cost.

If the deal goes through, it could prove to be one of the defining transfers of the summer — not just for Liverpool, but for the Premier League as a whole.

As Liverpool prepare for back-to-back title bids and a return to the Champions League spotlight, Coman could be the piece that elevates them from contenders to a dominant force once again.
