Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua’s isolation in the Mt Kenya region intensified as over 2,000 Njuri Ncheke elders publicly endorsed Interior Cabinet Secretary Prof. Kithure Kindiki as their representative to President William Ruto. The endorsement took place during a meeting at the Nchiru shrine in Tigania West, led by chairman Adrian Aruyaru.
The elders, representing Meru and Tharaka Nithi, expressed their belief that Prof. Kindiki, who is seen as the senior-most politician from the region working closely with President Ruto, was better positioned to advance their interests. They argued that Gachagua was not aligning with the President’s agenda and therefore could not be relied upon to effectively advocate for the region’s needs.
“We have decided to disown Gachagua and support Prof. Kindiki, who has demonstrated his capability and commitment to our nation. He is the person we want to represent our region,” Aruyaru said.
The elders emphasized their preference for supporting leaders who are aligned with the government, citing Kindiki’s close working relationship with President Ruto. “Prof. Kindiki is not only our son but also a key player in delivering development across the country. We endorse him as the region’s kingpin and spokesperson, to act as the link between our people and the President,” Aruyaru added.
In addition to endorsing Kindiki, the elders reaffirmed their support for Tharaka Nithi Governor Muthomi Njuki and Meru Governor Kawira Mwangaza. Last week, a similar endorsement of Kindiki was made by 500 elders from Embu, Meru, and Tharaka Nithi counties.
