Controversial Kenyan TikToker Brian Chira says he was infected with HIV after being sexually assaulted.
Chira made the revelations in a recent YouTube interview with Comedian Oga Obinna.
“How I got HIV is still a story I get difficulties talking about, I’ve never talked about it, in fact, this is an exclusive you’re getting,” he said.
Unapologetic Chira, described how he was invited to a high-end party in Mombasa. And on that day, like any other partygoer, he rode a bus from Nakuru to Mombasa.
He mentioned how he arrived early and needed to find a location to hang out before the party started.
“I arrive at 7.00 pm, and you know parties happen at night, so I had to find a place to chill out, a friend of mine who studied in TUM, he committed suicide, invited me to his place…” he narrated.
“So he invites me over, I go…and there’s a whole, he invites two or four people, we were schoolmates, and they come with their partners,” he went further.
“We order some drinks, and things escalate,” he added
“To an or*y,” Obinna jested.
“Not to an or*y, I felt like I was taken advantage of,” he narrated.
“They were four women, four men, so in short you’re saying you were raped?” Obinna probed the TikToker.
“Exactly, and I reported that, there is evidence of that, I went to the school, Kabarak University,” he narrated further.
Chira who revealed that he was sexually assaulted by a man despite blacking out from too much drinking explained that the physician did not give him the right directive on how to take PrEP medication.
“I was given PrEP, but I was not given the right directives on how to take the medication,” he noted.
Chira without proper instructions, missed some days and that’s how it cost him his health.
PrEP is a medicine that is given to a person who may have been exposed to HIV following unprotected sex in order to avoid infection with the virus.
The drug should be taken within 72 hours of being exposed for 30 days without missing a day.
Chira would move on with his life after the Mombasa ordeal, assuming he was fine after finishing the thirty-day prescription with the belief that he finished regardless of missing certain days.
Chira goes to VCT
A friend later took him to a VCT clinic for an HIV test under the guise of a lunch treat, and that is how Chira learned he was HIV-positive.
“During Covid, kulikua tu na mashida mob, Njaa and this friend of mine invites me for lunch, I knew I was going to eat, then he tells me tuingie huku kidogo, we ended up in a VCT. Then the physician asks me if I’ve ever been tested,” he narrated.
Chira in a piece of parting advice, urged people to have protected sex or just abstain altogether noting that people may be infected and not be detectable because it takes time.
“If you have to, wrapt it, or go to a VCT, but you have to be careful coz a person may have gotten infected last week or a month, and it’s not detectable then, just abstain…” he urged.
Chira also recounted how difficult it was to disclose the information to his grandmother, who was already burdened with caring for her grandchildren after her daughters died.
He says that his grandmother had to find out through his TikTok videos because his fans were the first to learn about his HIV status.
While the information about HIV/AIDS is wide and delicate, Chira has disclosed that you can take PrEP while living with an infected spouse and remain virus-free.
