Newly acquired Nairobi City Stars center-back Brian Opinde is excited about his move from Eldoret-based Langas Super Stars, a team competing in Division 2, the fourth tier of Kenyan football.
Opinde was scouted while playing for PASC Langa in the Safaricom Chapa Dimba tournament and joined Simba wa Nairobi just in time for the upcoming season. Reflecting on his transition to City Stars, he said, “One day, I was a Division 2 player, and the next thing I knew, I was signed for the season at City Stars. This is a dream come true, and I wish to make the most out of this rare opportunity.”
He expressed gratitude for the warm welcome he received from the team and noted that training has been going well. “Through the guidance of the coaches, I have quickly adapted to the team’s philosophy and approach,” he added.
Although Opinde sat out the league opener against Bidco United, he was included in the squad for the next match against Mara Sugar, where he remained an unused substitute. However, he remains optimistic about making it into the match-day squad for upcoming games.
“The two games gave me a glimpse of the top flight. The team played very well, and even though I didn’t play, I picked up a lot of lessons,” he shared. “When the time comes and it’s my turn to play, I’ll be ready.”
Opinde is one of four new players brought in for the season, joining winger Andre Kalama, midfielder James Ssemambo, and left-back Stephen Bulugu.
