Two children aged two and three years have drowned while playing in a neighbour’s swamp in Bunyala North Ward, Busia County.

Christine Anyango and Simon Okochi were playing in the swamp when they met their death.

The siblings had been left home alone while their parents were tilling the farm for plantation season.

According to the area chief Jael Mudonga, the two went to draw water from the swamp before meeting their death.

“The children went to draw water from a neighbour’s swamp in the morning and started playing in the water thereafter drowning,” he said.

Mudonga also urged parents not to leave their children close to water sources or allow them to draw water by themselves.

“This is a very unfortunate incidence and I would like to ask parents not to allow children fetch water by themselves,” the chief added.

The police have taken the two bodies to Port Victoria Morgue as they launch investigations.
