Bayer Leverkusen manager, Xabi Alonso, is optimistic forward Victor Boniface will return from injury as scheduled.

Boniface has been sidelined since sustaining an abductor injury during Nigeria’s preparation for the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations.

The forward has been working his way back to full fitness after undergoing surgery early in the year.

“Boniface has worked very hard, his rehab is going well,” Alonso told a press conference.

The striker is expected to return to action next month.

The 23-year-old has registered 10 goals and provided seven assists in 16 league appearances for Die Werkself this season.

He has added another four goals and an assist in the Europa League.
