Bungoma Queens head coach Robert Machio says team is rejuvenated and eager to fight for their place in the FKF Women’s Premier League next season after a good fight in the cup competition over the weekend.
Queens qualified for the quarter-finals of the FKF Women’s Cup after defeating Equity 2-0, a win that has risen the spirit of players in the camp amid a Premier League relegation battle.
Speaking to Citizen Digital, Machio attributed the Equity victory to teamwork and strict adherence to his game plan, adding that the win was a crucial morale booster ahead of the beckoning league assignments.
“The spirits are high in the camp after that performance, if you win you cement that winning mentality in the squad and we will be approaching our match against Bunyore with the same mentality.
“They have not played two fixtures and that has given them enough rest. However, we have match fitness and ready to pick nine points in our next three matches to avoid relegation,” he said.
The tactician further revealed that Queens were speedy enough in their encounter with Equity, a tactical approach that bore fruits for the Bungoma-based outfit.
Machio now feels the girls are ready to build on that win to secure their place in next season’s premier league campaign, with tricky fixtures with Bunyore and Nakuru Falcons in the horizon.
Maximum points in these outings will help drag them out of drop zone.
“We knew playing against a well experienced side like Equity in the FKF Women’s Cup would not be an easy task, so we chose a speedy game plan and it worked.
“The opponents lost endurance in the second half and that worked to our advantage,” he said.
After knocking out Equity out of the FKF Women’s Cup, Bungoma Queens will face Kibera Girls in the quarters finals.
