A 55-year-old woman has been sentenced to 50 years in prison or pay a fine of Ksh.50 million for trafficking 3.9 kilograms of heroin.

Mwaura Mumbi appeared before a Busia court on Tuesday where she was slapped with the sentence.

According to the Office of the Director of Public Prosecution (ODPP), Mumbi was found guilty after the prosecution proved the case beyond reasonable doubt by providing 10 prosecution witnesses and exhibits in court.

“Mumbi was found guilty of trafficking in narcotic drugs contrary to section 4(a)(ii) of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Act No.4 of 2022,” the ODPP stated.

The ODPP said Mumbi was arrested on March 10, 2023, at Busia One Border Point, with 3.9kg of heroin with a street value of Ksh.11,808,000.
