Saboti Member of Parliament( MP) Caleb Amisi has criticized Kisii Governor Simba Arati for suggesting that President William Ruto should join the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) following the death of party leader Raila Odinga.

In a statement on Monday, Octgober 20, 2025, Amisi expressed outrage at the remarks, calling them insensitive and ill-timed.

“What nonsense is this? When are people going to mourn Baba first?” Amisi posed. “We need seven days of mourning before anyone starts declaring Ruto anything. Ruto is not going anywhere, and elections are in August 2027.”

The outspoken legislator accused some ODM members of engaging in premature political talk instead of focusing on honoring Raila’s legacy and mourning his passing.

“Deputy party what? Wonders will never cease! Kenya needs a renaissance,” he added.

His remarks came hors after Arati has applauded President William Ruto for seeking to strengthen the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM), ahead of the 2027 General Elections.

Speaking during this year’s Mashujaa day celebrations held at Marani grounds in Marani Sub-County, Arati, who is also ODM’s Deputy Party leader, urged the president to also consider registering as a party member, saying the move would assist the party to easily fulfil the late Prime Minister Raila Odinga ‘s vision of having a strong party for easier delivery of services to the people.

The governor put on notice those of the contrary opinion, saying the party had plans of fronting a presidential candidate to enable it either to form the next government, or be in the coalition that will win the election.

On his part, Kisii County Commissioner (CC) Joseph Kibet decried low voter registration turnout and appealed to eligible residents to register before the deadline.

Kibet also sent a stern warning to perpetrators of drug trafficking and illicit brews that the government would deal with them ruthlessly in accordance with the law.

Meanwhile, Kisii residents have joined other Kenyans in mourning the late former Prime Minister Raila Odinga, even as the national flag was flown at half-mast during Mashujaa Day celebrations as per the presidential directive.

Both the governor and CC led the residents in observing a moment of silence after the entertainment, most of which was done in commemoration of the late former premier.
