Manchester United legend Gary Neville has hit out at Arsenal’s forwards, insisting that they are not good enough.

Neville spoke after Newcastle United eliminated Arsenal from the Carabao Cup semi-final on Wednesday.

Newcastle defeated Arsenal 2-0 in the second leg of the Carabao Cup semi-final at St. James’ Park.

Goals from Jacob Murphy and Anthony Gordon secured the victory for Eddie Howe’s side.

Newcastle had also beaten the Gunners 2-0 in the first leg at the Emirates Stadium last month.

“This has shone a massive spotlight on the toothlessness of Arsenal’s forward players compared to what we’re seeing at the other end of the pitch,” Neville said on Sky Sports’ commentary of the Newcastle vs Arsenal tie.

“They have to [strengthen in the position] this summer.

“I was supportive of them not panicking, finding the player they want, I get that.

“But when they bid for Ollie Watkins, they are sending a message to the rest of the squad that the ones up front aren’t good enough. They were never going to get him anyway.”

Arsenal failed to bring in a top striker in the recently concluded January transfer window, despite calls for Mikel Arteta’s side to sign a proven goalscorer.

Gabriel Jesus and Bukayo Saka are currently recovering from injuries, while Kai Havertz has faced criticism for his performances for the North London club.
