Cabinet Secretary Alfred Mutua made quite an entrance at Charlene Ruto’s wedding in Mwanza, Tanzania, arriving in style aboard a Sling TSi aircraft he piloted himself.
A photo shared on November 5, 2026, by social media user Engineer John Macharia, handle @engjohnmacharia, shows the two men posing together in front of the small propeller plane on what appears to be a runway.
The aircraft, which bears a South African flag emblem, is a Sling TSi, a four-seat, single-engine low-wing light sport aircraft powered by a turbocharged Rotax engine and manufactured by Sling Aircraft in South Africa.
Alfred Mutua’s journey to the cockpit
The CS’s appearance at the high-profile wedding in his own aircraft is a testament to a dream decades in the making.
Mutua grew up in Riruta Satellite and long harboured ambitions of becoming a pilot, but financial pressures and a demanding career forced him to put those plans aside for many years.
He eventually enrolled at 99s Flying School in 2023 and completed his training across Kenya and South Africa before earning his Private Pilot Licence.
Since then, he has logged over 300 flying hours, a milestone that speaks to his dedication to the craft.
Mutua has spoken publicly about his aviation journey as a source of inspiration, using his own story to encourage young Kenyans to pursue their ambitions regardless of the obstacles they face.
Flying himself to one of the country’s most talked-about weddings of the year is perhaps his most visible demonstration of that message yet.
Charlene Ruto’s wedding in Mwanza drew significant attention, with several prominent Kenyan figures making the trip across the border to celebrate with the First Daughter.
