A gang of illicit brew dealers in Bomet assaulted Embomos sub location assistant chief Julius Rono before they tore down his uniform.

According to a Nyumba Kumi member who didn’t want his identity revealed due to the sensitivity of the matter, the chief faced resistance while on his duty to arrest the suspects who were selling the brew (chang’aa) before the chief stormed the compound.

An eye witness said the administrator managed to escape with some bruises during the scuffle and was attended to at a local medical facility and discharged.

In neighbouring village in the Taboino area, a panga-welding gang ambushed a Nyumba kumi member and cut him in the shoulder, hand and the neck. They allegedly attacked the man for participating in an operation at Cheptendeniet village where 300 litres of Changaa were destroyed by the administrators.

According to Cheptalal location chief Johnstone, the suspects fled after committing the heinous crime, leaving the victim in a pool of blood. He is currently undergoing treatment at Kapkatet hospital.

David Langat, who is one of the village elders, accused police of colluding with the Chang’aa traders to undermine chiefs.
