China has dismissed claims linking them to cyberattacks against the Kenyan government terming the accusations as “false and groundless”.

This after an expose done by Reuters reported that China hackers had for a years-long series targeted key ministries and state institutions with the aim of gaining information on debt owed to Beijing by Kenya.

“It is a highly sensitive political issue to pin the label of cyber attack to a certain government without solid evidence,” read a statement from the Chinese Embassy spokesperson.

“The relevant media should adopt a professional and responsible attitude and underscore the importance to have enough evidence when conducting reports, rather than make groundless assumptions and accusations.”

The Reuters report further stated that China has firm diplomatic ties with Kenya and cannot afford the risk of attempting such allegations that will jeopardize the gains made in bolstering the 60-year-old bond.

China, therefore, stated that any attempts to taint the relationship are doomed to fail “and will only disgrace oneself.”

“Guided by the principles of sincerity, real results, amity and good faith and with a commitment to the greater good and shared interests, China endeavours to strengthen solidarity and cooperation with Kenya and work together with Kenya to strive for new progress in the China-Kenya comprehensive strategic cooperative partnership,” read the statement.
