Media personality Ciru Muriuki says that Kenya would need decades to salvage herself.
Through a post on her X account on Monday, January 26, 2026, the journalist stated that her opinion was based on her knowledge of mistakes that were made in 2013.
“It will take decades to undo the mistake that was made in 2013,” she stated.
Although she did not dive into explaining the specific mistake, Ciru was responding to a social media user who opined that the country is moving on autopilot.
The social media user, identified only as Dendricck on the X platform, had in the post insisted that Kenya is in the trenches and has been there for a long time.

The user explained that, inasmuch as Kenyans keep making fun of countries like Nigeria for their conditions, they are not far behind. He went further and pointed out specific areas, which, in his opinion, were failing.
“I don’t know if you guys know, but this country is really in the trenches, and it has been so for the longest time, sai mnachekeleathe likes of Nigeria, but truth be told, we’re not very far away from being in a similar situation, health, education sector, they’re all crumbling,” Dendricck stated.
Ciru Muriuki’s activism
Over the recent past, Ciru Muriuki has evolved from a media personality into a prominent voice for social and political accountability in Kenya. She is a fierce critic of the current administration, notably joining the 2024 Gen Z-led protests against the Finance Bill to demand better governance and economic relief for citizens.

Beyond the streets, Ciru utilises her platform to challenge systemic issues like corruption and the “gatekeeping” she believes stifles the potential of young Kenyans.
Her perspective is deeply rooted in the idea that the nation’s progress is tethered to the bravery of its citizens in demanding transparency.
