A 41–year–old man charged with threatening to kill his mother told the court that he couldn’t tell whether the accusations were true or not because he was drunk at the time he was accused of issuing the death threats.

Mohammed Kiprop is accused of threatening to kill Fatuma Ngetich at her house in Nyayo Estate, Embakasi in Nairobi on January 10, 2024, in contravention of section 223 (1) of the Penal Code.

He uttered the word “Nitakuua” followed by profanities and the police and the office of the Director of Public Prosecutions believe the same amounts to threats to Ms Ngetich’s life.

Ms Ngetich,70, was inside her house with a friend when her son returned from a drinking spree and allegedly started causing chaos by destroying windows and television among other household items.

Kiprop allegedly was irked after his mother told him that he was an adult and should have moved out of her house to live on his own.

The suspect is said to have uttered the words during the commotion and the matter was reported to the police who arrested him.

At some point, he rushed into the kitchen and took a knife to allegedly stab his mother but his aunt who was present intervened to rescue her sister. She is listed as a witness in the case.

During investigations, Ms Ngetich told the police that her son had done the same several times after smoking weed and taking alcohol.

When he appeared before Chief Magistrate Tito Gesora of Makadara Law Courts, Kiprop claimed that there was bad blood between him and his mother and other relatives.

Gesora entered a plea of not guilty for him and released him on a cash bail of Sh30,000 and an alternative bond of Sh40,000.

The case will be mentioned on March 3, 2024, before the hearing starts on July 9, 2024.
