Kenya’s efforts to combat Neglected Tropical Diseases (NTDs) and the Mpox virus have received a significant boost following a donation from the World Health Organization (WHO). The global health agency provided medicines for NTDs as well as laboratory diagnostic kits to help manage the ongoing Mpox outbreak, which was officially declared on July 31, 2024.

The donation includes 28 PCR diagnostic kits capable of testing 2,688 suspected Mpox samples, 2,500 scalped blades, viral transport media, and swabs for sample collection. These resources are aimed at enhancing the country’s capacity to respond effectively to the outbreak.
