Nairobi Regional Commissioner Katee Mwanza has issued a stern warning to those vandalizing road furniture along Kitisuru-Thika Road in Westlands and Kasarani sub-counties, urging them to cease immediately. Mwanza highlighted that significant government funds and resources have been invested in constructing road infrastructure in the county, and such acts of destruction will not be tolerated.

“Security committees in the sub-counties must ensure that vandalism of road furniture is stopped and that perpetrators are arrested and prosecuted,” Mwanza emphasized.

He noted that in 2022, widespread vandalism of critical infrastructure prompted the government to classify vandalism of road furniture as a serious offense, with those found guilty facing charges akin to terrorism.

Mwanza made these remarks during a meeting of the Nairobi National Government Development Region/County Implementation Coordination and Management Committee at Nyayo House. The meeting was attended by Jonah Orumoi, Director of Delivery Service for Nairobi and Central Regions, along with other departmental heads.

The RC also addressed the issue of encroachments on the Southern Bypass and other road reserves, urging people to desist from such actions. He called on regional and county officers involved in government-funded projects to collaborate with officers from other departments to ensure timely completion of projects.

“Effective teamwork will enable the region to complete its projects as scheduled,” Mwanza stated. He stressed the importance for government officers to be well-informed about ongoing projects and programs in other departments to effectively address public inquiries and serve as a bridge to the government.

“The government is undertaking a lot of projects within the county to benefit citizens.
“Sharing of information with colleagues is important as it will eliminate misinformation reaching the public on various platforms,” Mwanza said.

The RC told officers to conduct engagement and sensitisation forums for the projects and programmes they are undertaking. He said such engagements will also eliminate waste.
He urged the regional and county heads to be keen on monitoring and evaluating the projects they undertake.

The RC said assessment impact, follow-ups, feedback from beneficiaries, and constant supervision result in quality projects.
