Crystal Palace needed penalties to beat Liverpool in this season’s Community Shield game played on Sunday.

It was the Reds who got off to a flying start with debutant Hugo Ekitike scoring within four minutes.

But the Eagles were level shortly after from the penalty spot after Ismaila Sarr was fouled in the area. Jean-Philippe Mateta stepped up to send Alisson Becker the wrong way.

Liverpool went in front almost immediately after Jeremie Frimpong’s cross dipped over Dean Henderson and into the net.

With a few minutes to play, Sarr ran through to make it 2-2 and send the game to penalties.

Henderson produced several remarkable saves as Crystal Palace added the Community Shield to the FA Cup trophy they won earlier in the year.
