A young woman found sitting motionless and unresponsive at a bus stage in Roysambu, Nairobi, has sparked widespread concern after videos of her distressing situation circulated online and residents appealed urgently to her family to find her.
The woman, dressed in a black blouse, matching trousers and a chequered trench coat, was filmed seated on the pavement outside a shop, staring blankly into the distance.
Despite repeated attempts by passersby to engage her in conversation, she neither spoke nor acknowledged those around her.
A Night Spent at Roysambu Stage
An earlier video, filmed at night, showed her lying at the stage in the cold. A group of men, several of them security guards, gathered around her and gently urged her to move to a safer spot.
“Get up, madam, let’s go sit over there because where you are sleeping is too cold. Please try get some strength and get up,” one man said as he and others coaxed her to her feet.
Once she stood, the men reassured her she was in no danger.
“Do not fear; we will not harm you and no one here will harm you. Just calm down; we only want to help. Let us find you somewhere you can sleep,” said one of the Good Samaritans.
They guided her to a warmer location, stayed with her through the night to ensure her safety and offered to buy her food. Throughout all of this, the woman remained completely silent, accepting their help without uttering a single word.
When morning came, the men discovered she had not moved and was still sitting at the stage in the same silent, withdrawn state.
One of the men who had watched over her recorded a second appeal directed at anyone who might recognise her.
“Anyone who knows this madam, she has been here in Roysambu stage since last night. She is not a street urchin; she does not look mentally unstable. I don’t know if she was drugged but she looks clean so anyone who knows her knows she is here where Zuri vehicles pick passengers,” he said.
He added that the woman had continued to refuse food, conversation and any form of engagement, and stressed that her family needed to come and get her as a matter of urgency.
