The security committee in Siaya County has raised concerns over the increase of murder cases linked to land disputes across the region.

Siaya County Commissioner Jim Njoka says that the rate at which people kill each other because of land disputes in the region is alarming.

He added that instead of killing each other, warring parties should seek legal channels and alternative dispute resolution mechanisms that will prevent such incidences.

Njoka similarly urged senior land owners to subdivide their parcels when they are still alive to prevent possible wrangles between their children upon their demise.

The County Commissioner stated that most families often fight because of such unresolved issues adding that female children should also be included in inheritance since they also have a right to succession.

Njoka was speaking during the 60th Madaraka Day celebration at the Siaya KMTC grounds where he also expressed concern over the upsurge of mob justice across the county and warned that this should also stop.

The administrator told the residents that they need to be following lawful procedures whenever they are wronged instead of taking the law into their own hands.
