Antonio Conte, the former manager of Chelsea and Tottenham Hotspur, has been named as the new head coach of Napoli on a three-year contract. The 54-year-old has been without a managerial role since his departure from Spurs by mutual agreement in March 2023, after a tenure of 16 months.
Despite a challenging stint at Tottenham, Conte boasts an illustrious coaching career. He achieved immediate success at Chelsea, winning the Premier League title in his first season (2016-17) and the FA Cup in his second before parting ways with the club in 2018.
Expressing his enthusiasm about the new role, Conte highlighted Napoli’s global significance and pledged to dedicate himself fully to the team’s development and the club’s growth. Previously, he led Inter Milan to their first Serie A triumph in 11 years in 2021 and enjoyed a successful spell at Juventus, securing three consecutive Serie A titles between 2011 and 2014.
Napoli, who clinched the Serie A title last year for the first time in 33 years, faced challenges in replicating their success and finished tenth in the league. Their recent struggles led to the appointment of Slovakia’s national team coach, Francesco Calzona, on a short-term contract until the end of the season, following the dismissal of manager Walter Mazzarri after just three months in charge.
In other Serie A developments, Vincenzo Italiano, the former Fiorentina manager, has been named as the new manager of Bologna, following the club’s qualification for the Champions League. Thiago Motta, who guided Bologna to a fifth-place finish in the 2023-24 season, departed the club at the end of the campaign and is expected to assume the managerial role at Juventus.
