Jackson Kuria Kihara, popularly known as Cop Shakur, has called out singer Iyanii after his performance at a recent event.

In a lengthy statement on X on Friday, February 6, 2026, Cop Shakur invoked the late Rex Masai’s name, reminding the singer of the painful experience that the deceased’s mother went through.

Without mentioning the event in question, Cop Shakur noted that Iyani’s performance at the event amounted to sanitising those who ordered Rex Masai’s killing.

He sought to refresh the singer’s memory by attaching a photo of Rex Masai’s mother while referencing events of June 2024, when the youthful Kenyan was shot dead during protests in Nairobi.

Iyanii! Do you know the woman in the photo? If you don’t, she is Mama Rex Masai. You might not know her, but I’m sure you know Rex Masai,” he wrote.

Pain

Capturing the pain of a mother who had educated her son, only for him to be killed at a young age, Cop Shakur lamented that the singer had gone to bed with the regime.

“The other day, you performed and sanitised the person who ordered the killing of her son. Mama Rex worked very hard to educate her son,” he added.

He asked the singer if he would act differently if the situation were to flip, with the singer taking the place of a parent who has lost a son.

“Just imagine you had a son or a brother, and then suddenly he was killed by the regime; would you still have gone to bed with the regime?” Cop Shakur added.

Rex Masai’s death

Rex Masai was felled by the bullet on a day that saw Kenyans take to the streets to protest against the Finance Bill 2024, along with other demands that they wanted President William Ruto’s administration to address.

The 24-year-old was killed on Thursday, June 21, 2024, when he was getting off work.

His mother, Jillian Munyau, clarified that the deceased was not part of the protesters and had just arrived in town from work when he was shot.

She explained that the 24-year-old had just gotten to the CBD with his friends when a tear gas canister was lobbed at them, forcing everyone to scamper for safety.
