On Wednesday, Cabinet Secretary for Environment Aden Duale departed for Abidjan, Ivory Coast, to attend the 10th Special Session of the African Ministerial Conference on the Environment (AMCEN), taking place on September 5-6, 2024.
Duale will represent Kenya at this key conference, where African ministers will convene to address urgent environmental issues affecting the continent. The 2024 session will focus on the challenges posed by climate change, deforestation, and biodiversity loss, and seek sustainable solutions tailored to the needs of African nations.
Over the two days, discussions will cover a broad range of topics related to environmental and climate action. The outcomes of these discussions are expected to influence the continent’s environmental policies and its approach to global climate commitments.
Kenya, noted for its proactive stance on climate action and environmental conservation, will present its initiatives, including the ambitious $15 billion National Tree Growing Programme, which aims to increase the country’s tree cover to 30 percent by 2032.
