Public Service, Performance and Delivery Management Cabinet Secretary Moses Kuria has said that the National Youth Service (NYS) recruitment exercise will take place between February 5-9, 2024.

CS Kuria, in a letter to NYS Director General James Tembur, called for a scrupulous distribution process across all wards to ensure transparency and equitability.

“As we approach the National Youth Service (NYS) Recruitment Exercise scheduled to take place from the 5th to 9th February 2024, it is imperative to ensure a fair and transparent process in the distribution of recruits across different wards,” he stated.

“This meticulous distribution has been designed to promote equality and fairness, reflecting the essence of the NYS in fostering national unity.”

He stressed the need to comply with the recruitment programme outlining the distribution of the NYS recruits per ward.

Kuria further indicated various guidelines to be adhered to during the recruitment exercise such as: ensuring the schedule is dispensed among all stakeholders involved, stressing the importance of maintaining integrity, professionalism and following the schedule, reporting any discrepancies, and setting in place regular monitoring and reporting mechanisms.

Additionally, the CS affirmed that taking the route to distribute the recruits will champion public trust and equitability.

“This exhaustive approach to the distribution of recruits will contribute to the overall success of the NYS recruitment exercise and reinforce public trust in the fairness of the process,” he noted.

The directives come nearly two months after President William Ruto revealed that his administration would step up the intake of the NYS trainees from the current 10,000 to 15,000 per cohort beginning this year.

This, he said, was aimed at achieving 100,000 annual enrolment for the next five years.

“This year, we are graduating 10,000, in next year in the first cohort, it will be 15,000 and in the next cohort it will be 15,000. So next year alone, 30,000 young people from across Kenya will graduate in NYS as we position NYS as the incubator for all other arms of government,” Ruto said then.
