The Ministry of Health, in collaboration with counties and communities, is steadfast in improving maternal health coverage and equity through strategic investments in health systems, midwife training, and emergency obstetric care.

A remarkable milestone in this endeavour is the government’s allocation of 4.1 billion KSH to the Linda Mama Free Maternity Program.

This initiative has been instrumental in offering vital antenatal, delivery, and postnatal care, benefiting nearly one million women annually.

The Cabinet Secretary for Health, Nakhumicha Wafula, expressed these sentiments during the inauguration of the new Maternity Wing at MP Shah Hospital – KPJ Medical Center.

The timely launch coincided with the celebration of World Breastfeeding Week, aligning perfectly with the theme “Enabling breastfeeding: Making a difference for working parents” In her speech, CS Nakhumicha emphasized the critical significance of investing in maternal and newborn health to ensure positive outcomes after childbirth.

She commended MP Shah Hospital for its commendable efforts in reducing maternal mortality and improving newborn outcomes.

The newly launched Maternity Wing, along with the integrated maternal and child health services at KPJ Medical Center, aligns seamlessly with the Ministry’s goals of increasing access to skilled deliveries, comprehensive antenatal care, and full immunization for children.
