Cabinet Secretaries on Friday were put to task to answer questions about their areas of work.

President William Ruto put the spotlight on his Cabinet Secretaries and Principal secretaries as he unveiled the digital government services.

After his arrival at KICC, the President in the company of his deputy Rigathi Gachagua and Nairobi Governor Johnson Sakaja moved from stand to stand which had been set up by various ministries.

Ruto took the opportunity to interrogate the cabinet members and their Principal secretaries on how versed they are with their mandates.

ICT CS Eliud Owalo was first on the list when the President inquired about how far his ministry was in setting up free internet in markets.

Ruto who doesn’t mince his words was quick to ask questions aligning them to his manifesto.

The CSs answered the President with some being stopped mid-sentence and asked to elaborate further.

Ruto was keen to know how the ministries have aligned themselves in his plan to digitise 5,000 government services.

Drumming up support for his mega affordable housing plan, the President tasked Housing PS Charles Hinga to reveal how far the plan is.

Hinga furnished the President with information on the affordable housing plan.

“Out of the 178, 29 sub-counties are awaiting the groundbreaking ceremony. We have completed the assessment and evaluation will be done this week, award contracts and go ahead for groundbreaking,” Hinga answered.

President Ruto wanted to know what the Foreign Affairs ministry has done for the creation of jobs beyond the Kenyan borders.

Foreign affairs CS Alfred Mutua revealed that a new platform, Kazi Majuu has been, developed for that effect.

“We have come up with a platform, Kazi Majuu, whereby Kenyans can go online and look for job opportunities all over the world. If an agent is not listed in this system, you don’t trust them,” he said.

After the cabinet secretaries took oath in October 2022, Ruto challenged them to put in effort in their areas assigned.

Earlier this year, President William Ruto issued a stern warning against corruption and wastage in his government as far as the provision of services to citizens is concerned.

Ruto said graft and wastage of resources will not be tolerated in his administration.
