Kenya Rugby Union (KRU) have announced the pools for the Dala 7s Division Two matches set for Kisumu Polytechnic in Kisumu County on July 1 and 2.
This competition will see 24 teams vying for victory and a chance at promotion to the top division for the second leg of the National 7s Circuit, Driftwood 7s set for Mombasa Sports Club next weekend.
Blak Blad top seeds in Dala 7s
Pool A features Blak Blad, the top-seeded team in the second division. After missing out on the top division competition, Blak Blad will be eager to prove their worth and secure a spot in the elite league.
They will face competition from Sigalagala, the Western Region Nationwide Champions, as well as KRU Championship side the University of Eldoret and the host team Kisumu Polytechnic.
Pool B promises captivating matches as Zetech Oaks, a notable participant in last season’s KRU Championship, take on Meru, Bordderucks from Busia, and Homa Bay.
In Pool C, last season’s champions Vihiga Granites will be looking to defend their title. They will go head-to-head with CITAM, Kenya Prisons, and Mbale, as they strive to maintain their dominance in the division and secure a shot at promotion.
Pool D brings together Northern Suburbs, Embu, Eldoret, and Siaya. Pool E features Kabarak University, Stallions, Molo, and Bungoma, who will bring their A-game to secure victories and move closer to promotion.
The final pool, Pool F, will witness Administration Police Warriors facing off against Mount Kenya University, NYS Spades, and Shamberere. With every team hungry for success, this pool is bound to deliver captivating clashes and intense competition.
The stakes are high as teams battle for a coveted spot in the top division during the Driftwood 7s. The winner of the Division Two competition will earn the opportunity to compete among the best in the country.
About Dala 7s
The Dala 7s tournament, hosted by Kisumu RFC, is back and ready to captivate rugby fans once again. This prestigious event has been a staple in the rugby calendar since 2003, showcasing top-class talent and thrilling matches.
Although it faced temporary breaks between 2006 and 2008 due to logistical challenges, and again in 2020 and 2021 due to the unprecedented COVID-19 pandemic, the tournament has consistently delivered excitement and entertainment.
KCB stands tall as the most successful team in the tournament’s history, having clinched the title on four occasions.
Mwamba and Homeboyz closely trail behind with three titles each, while Kenya Harlequin and Nakuru have secured two titles apiece.
Impala Saracens, Strathmore Leos, and the now-defunct military side Ulinzi have each celebrated one championship, showcasing the fierce competition and parity that characterizes the Dala 7s.
The tournament organizers have also confirmed the ticket prices for this thrilling event. Rugby enthusiasts can secure their spots in the stands with VIP tickets priced at Ksh 1000 per day, ensuring an enhanced experience and closer access to the action.
Regular tickets are available at Ksh 500 per day, providing an affordable option for fans to witness captivating matches and cheer on their favourite teams.
