An armed man from Isiolo County has handed over a loaded rifle to the police.
In a statement shared on X on Sunday, February 22, 2026, the National Police Service confirmed that the firearm was surrendered during an ongoing security operation in the county.
The Service said the recovery was made under Operation Dumisha Amani following close collaboration between security agencies and members of the public.

According to the statement, officers on a joint patrol within the Tangila area received an AK 47 rifle that was voluntarily surrendered by a member of the public.
“The firearm was handed over together with two magazines loaded with sixty (60) rounds of ammunition, two additional rounds, and a police tactical jacket,” NPS stated.
The National Police Service added, “The successful recovery is a testament to the cooperation between security agencies and the community in ongoing efforts to enhance peace and stability in the region.”
The voluntary surrender comes just days after the Service reported a separate counter-terrorism operation in Nairobi.

Terror plot disrupted
“In that operation, officers from the National Police Service, in collaboration with other security agencies, conducted a high-level counter-terrorism operation that prevented what could have been a devastating attack,” NPS read.
“Acting on verified intelligence, the officers raided a hideout in Nairobi used by the suspects, where they seized five AK-47 assault rifles and twenty magazines loaded with a total of 600 rounds of ammunition, six hand grenades, and a Makarov pistol with 24 rounds of ammunition,” the statement added.
The NPS further said, “Additionally, medical kits and logistical supplies were also recovered at the scene, underscoring the scale of the threat that was disrupted.”
The Service emphasized that “this operation reflects sustained inter-agency intelligence coordination and proactive security measures designed to disrupt extremist networks, neutralise imminent threats, and reinforce national security while safeguarding lives and property.”

Specialised units, including the Anti-Terrorism Police Unit and the Special Operations Group, continue to maintain heightened vigilance across the country.
“We remain committed to combating all forms of criminality and reaffirm our dedication to the safety and security of all Kenyans, residents, and visitors,” NPS concluded.
