Millie Odhiambo, the Minority Whip in the National Assembly, believes that her party’s leader Raila Odinga is on thin ice due to the options available to him following his loss in the African Union Commission elections.

On the one hand, Odhiambo suggested that Raila collaborate with his nemesis-turned-ally, President William Ruto, in preparation for the 2027 elections.

Raila, on the other hand, has the option of rejecting the merger and confronting the head of state directly.

The Suba North MP opined that no matter which option Raila chooses, he will face criticism.

“If there is one politician that I give marks to, it is one Raila Amollo Odinga. It’s very difficult to be a Raila Amollo Odinga. You are damned if you do, damned if you don’t. If he doesn’t support the government, he is blamed; if he does, he is blamed,” she told Spice FM.

Further, Odhiambo maintained that the ODM party leader is consulting widely before deciding his next move, adding that the opposition will keep their cards close to their chest in terms of their political strategy moving forward.

“The broad-based government was not formed; legally, we don’t have one. We have some kind of cooperation. I have said it before, even on the floor of the house. Right now, there are negotiations for a possible then broad-based government,” she noted.

She added that the Kenya Kwanza administration is riddled with a myriad of problems as they attempt to restore public trust.

“With the Kenya Kwanza government, I would be cheating you if I told you there are no problems. They are problems, the problems need to be sorted. We need to be honest as a country about the way we deal with the issues that are emerging.”

Her remarks come amid talks of a possible deal between Ruto and Raila, with the latter set to wield significant power in government.
