The Democratic Action Party – Kenya (DAP-K) has summoned Mumias East Member of Parliament Peter Salasya for a meeting on Tuesday, January 16.
Speaking on SpiceFM on Monday, January 15, DAP-K party leader Eugene Wamalwa said that the party leadership will meet the legislator after he appears in court on Tuesday.
The summons comes after Salasya spent the night in a police cell after he was arrested on Friday evening for allegedly assaulting a county assembly member in Kakamega.
According to Wamalwa, the first time legislator will appear before the court tomorrow (Tuesday) and after that, “he will be coming to meet the party leadership,” he said.
During the interview, Wamalwa described Salasya as a very popular young man who might be dealing with anger management issues, saying that they are going to mentor him.
“He is a fearless leader who fought for Mumias Sugar and his people. But he needs to manage some of the issues he is being blamed for,” Wamalwa added.
He said that the first-term MP had a big dream and he fought with nothing, bare hands and won to become a Member of Parliament.
Slasya who is out on Sh50,000 bail after he was arrested on Friday for allegedly assaulting Isongo-Malaha Ward Representative Peter Walunya during a funeral service in his ward.
In a statement on Saturday, police said that Salasya was released on Sh50,000 cash bail on January 13, pending his arraignment on Tuesday, January 16.
“Kindly be informed that the MP has been released today the 13th day of January 2024 on cash bail of Sh50,000 to appear in Senior Principals Magistrates Court Mumias on Tuesday the 16th of January 2024 to answer to the charges of Assault causing actual bodily harm contrary,” part of the statement read.
Police further said that the guns of his two bodyguards would be tested and undergo ballistic analysis after they fired four shots in the air.
“His two security detail have been disarmed and their firearms are awaiting ballistic analysis,” the statement added.
This comes after they fired into the air during the commotion, during which members of the public intervened and pulled Indimuli to safety within the family compound.
In his defence, Salasya attributes his questionable behaviour to Satan, saying that he does not understand what has come over him.
Taking to his X account (formerly Twitter) on Sunday, January 14, 2024, Salasya apologised to his electorate and the country at large, promising to control his anger.
He admitted that his actions in the recent past have not been those of a role model for society, especially for the young people he represents.
“I, Peter Salasya, wish to express a sincere apology to the people of Mumias East and all Kenyans at large. My actions in the recent past have not been that of a role model or an example to the young men and women. Going forward, I promise to control my anger and reaction. Ni shetani aki (It is the work of Satan),” the MP wrote.
This is not the first time Mr Salasya has been involved in a physical confrontation since his election as an MP on August 9, 2022.

On November 12, 2023, the MP was attacked by a group of youths after he criticised Kakamega Governor Fernandes Barasa during a church function in Bukaya, Mumias West.
The first-time MP is currently under investigation for allegedly threatening a magistrate after she ordered him to pay a Sh500,000 debt to businessman Robert Lutta.
