The Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) has apprehended two people in a sting operation in Mombasa.
In a statement released on Tuesday, February 24, 2026, DCI confirmed the arrest of the two persons of interest linked to a robbery and abduction incident in which a businessman in the city lost huge sums of money.
According to the DCI, a loaded AK-47 rifle along with several rounds of ammunition and ten assorted mobile phones believed to have been used in criminal activities, was recovered during the operation that was carried out by a combined team of hawkshaws drawn from the Crime Research and Intelligence Bureau (CRIB) and the Operations Directorate.
“Efforts to sanitise the Coast region of criminal elements have received a much-needed boost following the arrest of two (2) armed and dangerous suspects and the recovery of a loaded AK-47 rifle.
Robbery & abduction incident
DCI detailed that the two persons of interest were linked to a security incident in which masked men abducted a businessman in Kisauni on February 17, 2026.

The businessman was robbed of huge sums of money and valuables before being dumped at a different location.
“The two suspects are believed to be behind a robbery and abduction incident involving a businessman in Kisauni Sub-County on February 17, 2026. During the incident, the victim was accosted by masked men, robbed of colossal sums of money and other valuables, and later abandoned,” the statement read in part.
The incident was reported to the police, with a team of detectives assembled to investigate the matter.

The duo was smoked out of their hideout in the Bamburi fisheries area of Mombasa after days of painstaking investigations.

“After days of painstaking investigations and acting on credible leads, detectives stormed a targeted apartment in the Bamburi Fisheries area. The operation led to the arrest of the two (2) suspects and the recovery of one (1) AK-47 rifle, one (1) magazine, four (4) rounds of ammunition, and ten (10) assorted mobile phones,” DCI added.
The two persons of interest are currently undergoing processing pending arraignment, as security operations across the entire Coast region continue to gain traction.
