Detectives from the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) have recovered a sleek Mercedes-Benz stolen in Nairobi.

In a statement on Wednesday, February 4, 2026, DCI detailed that the luxury car was stolen from a garage where it had been taken for a paint job.

The statement revealed that the high-end, unregistered Mercedes-Benz GLK350d disappeared without a trace from a garage in Spring Valley in Nairobi on January 30, 2026.

The watchman manning the garage was also reported missing, with his phone number switched off.

“The luxury machine had been booked into the garage for a paint job on January 30, 2026, but was later reported missing, and so was the watchman. His mobile phone was switched off, raising immediate red flags and triggering the circulation of the vehicle as stolen,” the statement read in part.

Dramatic chase that ended in Kajiado

The matter was reported to the police, and a team of detectives drawn from the Crime Research and Intelligence Bureau (CRIB), Nairobi Region, launched investigations.

The luxury car was traced cruising along Mombasa Road in the city, with detectives moving in to corner the occupants and recover the vehicle.

A high-speed chase ensued as the occupants of the vehicle attempted to flee from the detectives who were in hot pursuit.

“A hot pursuit ensued, ending at a police roadblock mounted by Imbirikani officers in Kajiado South Sub-County,” the statement added.

Occupants flee on foot

The occupants of the vehicle fled on foot, disappearing into the bush and leaving behind the car that had been fitted with a fake front registration plate.

“Cornered, the occupants opted for the coward’s escape. As officers closed in to verify the vehicle’s details, the suspects melted into nearby thickets, disappearing towards Oltiasika and Nosilale villages,” DCI added.

Upon inspection, the officers confirmed that the Benz matched the description of a stolen vehicle earlier reported, but had been tampered with to avoid detection, and had been fitted with a fake plate.

A manhunt has been launched for the occupants of the vehicle, with the DCI emphasising its commitment to see to it that the persons of interest are brought to justice.
