The Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) has now summoned former Interior Cabinet Secretary Dr. Fred Matiang’i over the alleged police raid at his house two weeks ago.

According to Senior Superintendent of Police Michael Sang, the former Interior strongman could have published false information regarding the alleged raid, hence the need to question him.

Sang, in a notice to compel attendance sent to Matiang’i, directed the ex-CS to appear at the DCI headquarters on Friday at 9:30am without fail.

“I Detective Michael K. Sang, CFE, a Senior Superintendent of police attached to Directorate of Criminal Investigations Headquarters, Serious Crime Unit, is investigating allegations of Publication of False Information contrary to section 23 of the computer Misuse and Cyber Crimes Act 2018 amongst other offences in regard to alleged invasion and raid of your residence (the former Cabinet Secretary, Ministry of Interior and National Co-ordination, Dr. Fred Matiangi) on the 8th – 9th day of February, 2023 allegedly by a “battalion” and/or “garrison” of police officers,” said the officer.

“I have reasons to believe that you, Dr. Fred Matiangi, the former Cabinet Secretary, Ministry of Interior and National Co-ordination, is connected to the offence or has information which can assist me in my investigations.”

Detective Sang further added that failure to present himself at the DCI headquarters amounts to committing an offence liable to prosecution of Matiang’i.

This comes after the High Court in Nairobi extended orders stopping the police from harassing or arresting Matiang’i.

The matter was mentioned on Thursday before Justice Justus Bwonwong’a who extended the anticipatory bail granted by Justice Kanyi Kimondo on February 9, 2023.

The DCI early this week also summoned Matiang’i’s lawyer Danstan Omari over the same offence of publishing false information regarding the said raid.

The High Court on Wednesday however barred the DCI from commencing any criminal investigations against the advocate, arresting or questioning him.
