Former Interior Minister Fred Matiangi has been summoned by the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) and is required to report to Mazingira House offices no later than 9.30 a.m. on Tuesday.According to a summons issued by Micheal K. Sang, a senior superintendent of police attached to the DCI, the former CS is being sought in connection with an investigation into the publication of false information about an alleged raid at his home.

“I have reasons to believe that you are connected or have information that can assist me in my investigations,” the notice served to Matiangi’s lawyer, Danstan Omari reads.

If the summons is not followed, the former Cabinet Secretary will face legal action, according to the DCI.

Matiangi returned to the country on Saturday after a two-week private tour in Europe, and he is expected to appear at DCI offices.

Matiangi is also currently under the EACC radar over his wealth from 2013-2022 after the anti-graft agency wrote to the head of the public service on the same.

His lawyer claimed that his client was not aware of any investigations against him but he welcomes any action by officers as is their constitutional mandate.

Matiang’i has been under probe by the DCI, questioning him over the alleged police raid at his house in February.

Earlier, Senior Superintendent of Police Michael Sang issued a directive compelling Matiang’i to appear at DCI headquarters on grounds that he could have published false information regarding the alleged police raid a fortnight ago.

His lawyer Danstan Omari later defended him, stating that the DCI did not follow the procedures on how summons ought to be served, noting that neither the former CS nor his legal representatives had received such a directive.

Should the DCI follow the set guidelines on the summons, Omari added, Matiang’i will willingly present himself for questioning.
