Democracy for Citizens Party [DCP] candidate David Warui has been declared the winner of the Kariobangi North Ward by-election, securing 2,140 votes to defeat independent candidate John Kimanzi, who garnered 1,891 votes.

Following the win, IEBC issued Warui with a certificate, and he could not hide his excitement, saying he was grateful to all residents who participated in the election, including those who did not vote for him.

He emphasised that politics should not be viewed as a source of enmity and urged former rivals to work together for the good of the community.

“Kariobangi, thank you to everyone who voted for me and even to those who did not. I want the people of Kariobangi to know that politics is not about enmity, and life must go on,” Warui said.

DCP’s growing influence

Warui added that he was ready to serve Kariobangi residentsdiligently and promised not to disappoint them.

He highlighted that Nairobi’s voters have shown a clear direction, suggesting that the DCP will continue to gain momentum across the city.

“Those we competed against, we must now work with them. I am ready for this responsibility, and I promise the people of Kariobangi that I will not let them down. I also want to tell Kenyans that if Nairobi has voted for a DCP candidate, it shows the direction the country is heading,” he added.

Warui further explained that the by-election was not just about winning a single seat but served as a test of the party’s potential in the 2027 general elections.

He asserted that the DCP is poised to rule Nairobi by winning all seats in the upcoming elections and described his victory as one that reinforced that President William Ruto is truly a one-term leader.

“Here in Kariobangi, DCP has demonstrated leadership. These elections were not just about winning a DCP seat; they were a test for 2027, showing that DCP is positioned to win all Nairobi seats. I say one term,” Warui said.

Warui also spoke about the conduct of the election, praising the IEBC for managing the process fairly.

He revealed that there were attempts by some individuals to bribe voters and use goons to disrupt the election, but he said these attempts were unsuccessful.

Warui underscored that winning should not involve intimidation, violence, or coercion, calling the situation a lesson for all political actors.

“Regarding the election itself, I want to thank the IEBC for conducting it fairly. However, I must also mention that some people tried to bribe voters, and goons attempted to intervene, but they did not succeed. I want to make it clear that winning should never involve using goons or violence against people. That should serve as a lesson to everyone,” he said.
