Police in Norwich are investigating an incident where a Kenyan, on December 10, 2023, died inside a prison in Norwich.

Mr Amos Ndemo, died while in the HM Prison in a category B/C multi-functional prison for adults and juvenile males. The prison is located in Norwich, Norfolk in England, and is operated by His Majesty’s Prison Service.

“An inquest into his death was held in Norwich on Wednesday, December 20, and heard that the Prisons and Probation Service Ombudsman are preparing a report,” international media reported on Friday, December 22, 2023.

In the short hearing, it emerged that the deceased was found dead in the prison, but they were yet to know what led to his death.

During the identification process, Samantha Goward, who is the Area coroner, said that it had been posivitely identified by his close ally called David Byaombe.

Ms Goward added that Mr Ndemo was known to the region’s mental health services and that the Norfolk and Suffolk NHS Foundation Trust would also be preparing a report for his inquest.

She adjourned the hearing for a pre-inquest review hearing to be held on June 28 next year.

His cousin, identified as Ms Loverine Kimaiga wondered why the deceased made the decision of leaving the country.

“Amos my cousin, my brother, our hero I cannot believe that you are no more. Why did you make the decision of leaving Kenya for England and now your death has left your family in dilemma?” Ms Kimaiga posed, adding that she will really miss her company.

Trizah Nyaboke said, “Rest in Peace. Amos Ndemo. Shine your way brother. You have left a big gap in the family.”
