Embattled Kisumu Senator Prof. Tom Ojienda has defiantly insisted that he will continue working with the national government to bring development closer to the people.

The Senator who was elected on an Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) ticket but is now in support of Kenya Kwanza administration, says that only the government can uplift the standards of the people.

Ojienda said this while launching an office for Achego sub-location assistant chief in Kisumu County.

“There are signs of development that you can see. And that is why I say I will always stand with the government because the government is the only way that you can bring development to your people,” Ojienda said.

He pointed to a road in the area which he alleged to have had a hand in building, saying that he personally talked to the Kenya Rural Roads Authority (Kerra) boss who approved the construction of the road.

The senator’s event was witnessed by a handful of people, in a region that is predominantly ODM affiliated.

Ojienda is among four ODM leaders expelled from the party for working with the government.

Others are Elisha Odhiambo (Gem), Gideon Ochanda (Bondo), Felix Odiwuor ‘Jalang’o’ (Lang’ata) and Caroli Omondi (Suba South).

Ojienda, Jalang’o and Odhiambo have since obtained orders barring their expulsion.

ODM, under the leadership of Raila Odinga accused the members of going against party loyalty and working with their political rivals.
