Kakamega Deputy Governor Ayub Savula has acknowledged that services within the county government are not operating smoothly. He revealed yesterday that several services have come to a standstill, with many contractors abandoning projects due to non-payment of their dues.
“The truth is that all is not well in the county government. Nearly all services have ground to a halt,” Savula admitted.
While speaking in Khwisero constituency, Savula highlighted the urgent need for a meeting between himself and Governor Fernandes Barasa to address the situation. He contradicted a local MCA who had earlier assured residents that contractors would return to their projects next week.
“We were elected to serve the people and we must be truthful and honest. I have, for instance, heard the MCA of this ward promising residents that three projects in this ward that have stalled will be restarted next week,” Savula said.
He added, to cheers: “Those are blatant lies because no contractor will be back at Buhili Primary School ECD, Khwisero Level IV Hospital ward, and Khwisero sub-county administrator’s office next week. Who will accept to be back on site without pay?”
Savula expressed feeling that leaders had betrayed the trust placed in them by residents when they were elected on August 19, 2022. He noted widespread lethargy and incompetence in managing county affairs.
“The bitter truth is that all is not well in the county, as many functions have either stalled or not even launched. It is high time that I sit together with the governor and find a solution to this state of affairs,” he said.
Savula’s comments followed similar concerns voiced by Kakamega Woman Rep Elsie Muhanda a week earlier.
