Robert Alai, the Kileleshwa MCA, is seeking clarity from National Assembly Minority Leader Opiyo Wandayi regarding his participation in President William Ruto’s state visit to the United States.
Alai specifically demands a detailed explanation from Wandayi concerning his presence alongside Ruto during a luncheon at the US Capitol in Washington, DC, on May 22, 2024.
Wandayi shared a photo of himself with Ruto and National Assembly Majority Leader Kimani Ichungwah, outlining the nature of their meetings with various US officials, including the Congressional Black Caucus and House and Senate Leadership. He emphasized the aim of fostering stronger partnerships between Kenya and the USA.
However, Wandayi’s involvement in the government-sponsored trip has sparked questions from some Kenyans, particularly regarding the role of the opposition in such engagements.
In response, Alai, who was elected on the ODM party ticket, has taken to social media to seek clarification from Wandayi. Alai wants Wandayi to provide details on how he was cleared to join Ruto on the trip and on what grounds the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) party began endorsing such international engagements with Ruto’s administration.
“Firstly, since when did ODM start endorsing world tours with UDA leadership? We must have missed the secret strategy meeting where this was approved,” Alai says in his address to Wandayi.
“Could you kindly illuminate us on the strategic benefits ODM is expected to gain from your diplomatic dalliances? Are you negotiating for a way out of the Finance Bill 2024 or borrowing skills on mismanagement?”
Alai further sought to know the ODM leadership that authorized Wandayi to join Ruto in the US.
“Secondly, we are extremely curious about the authorization you received to gallivant around the globe with UDA and its apologists. Could you please share the specific letter of permission?” Alai posed.
“While UDA is being blamed for mismanaging the economy, overtaxing Kenyans, and turning us into a client state of the IMF and World Bank, you seem to be quite comfortable palling around with them.”
Mr. Opiyo Wandayi, EGH,
Minority Leader,
Kenyan National Assembly,
Nairobi.
Dear Mr. Wandayi,
RE: SHOW CAUSE LETTER
Greetings from Orange House, where the only international trips we take are in our imaginations aboard Ruto’s high taxes.
We hope your globe-trotting…

Raila’s recent statement addresses concerns regarding the presence of some Azimio leaders in William Ruto’s delegation during his US trip. Raila clarified that these Azimio leaders were invited by the US government and that they obtained permission from the coalition party before joining Ruto on his visit.
Acknowledging the rising concerns among opposition members regarding the presence of their leaders in Ruto’s tour, Raila’s statement aims to provide transparency and clarity regarding the situation.
