Turkana-based detectives have apprehended a man involved in the illicit trade of firearms within the County.

The suspect, identified as Moses Lokisha, aged 24, was taken into custody after an undercover police officer posed as a potential buyer for an AK47 rifle.

The successful operation was conducted by the ‘No Guns for Gangs’ team in response to a surge in armed robbery cases reported in the area.

The arrest unfolded when Lokisha attempted to sell the AK47 rifle to the undercover officer.

As the transaction was about to take place, the authorities swiftly moved in and apprehended Lokisha, effectively confiscating the dangerous firearm.

Lokisha is in police custody and is scheduled to appear in court on Monday, where he will face charges related to his involvement in the illegal firearms trade.

The Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) has sent a stern warning to criminals involved in such activities, emphasizing that their actions will not be tolerated.

“The DCI warns that no effort will be spared in dealing with cases of armed robberies, with perpetrators being met with an even greater force,” the statement added.
