Night vigils popularly known as ‘Disco Matanga’ and unnecessary parties shall remain banned in Siaya County during the 2024 festive season.

Siaya County Commissioner Norbert Komora says the events are avenues for crimes, and where school age children are often lured into immoral engagements.

“Disco Matanga and other parties are affecting us. Chiefs should be keen this December, those found culpable should be arrested,” he said.

He has therefore instructed security personnel across the county to be on the alert to ensure that those violating the directive are dealt with appropriately.

Komora has at the same time appealed to parents to be accountable for their children during this festive season to ensure they do not go astray.

The County Commissioner told parents and guardians not to leave their responsibility to chiefs and the police alone.

While decrying increased cases of sexual and gender based violence in the region, the administrator called on Siaya residents to be each other’s keepers.

He condemned cases of femicide among other forms of gender based violence.
