Doctors have issued a seven-day strike notice beginning next week on Monday.

The Kenya Medical Practitioners and Dentists Union (KMPDU) on Monday staged a peaceful demonstration in Nairobi, protesting among other things the shooting of their Secretary General Davji Atellah by police during a similar demonstration in Nairobi last week.

The medics were pushing for the posting of medical interns by the government on Thursday when Atellah was struck by a teargas canister.

On Monday, the doctors reiterated their push to Health Cabinet Secretary Susan Nakhumicha to employ the interns, saying the delay in posting them has affected services in public hospitals nationwide.
