The Judiciary has temporarily suspended court operations in Eldoret where protestors on Tuesday razed a county court.
Deputy registrar of the Court of Appeal in the region Cheronoh Kesse said they lost all files, computers and other important documents at the destroyed premises.

Kesse said due to the losses incurred and concerns about security of Judiciary staff a decision was taken to suspend operations.
She said they were working out a way to quickly resume operations as soon as possible. The High Court in the town is adjacent to the national library, which was extensively destroyed and looted by protestors.

Judges and court staff had to be evacuated using ambulances during the protests.
Kesse assured the public and court users that the Judiciary would resume work in the area as soon as possible.
She said the losses at the razed court were heavy but it was possible to reconstruct the files that were destroyed.

“We are sorry for the interruption of services at the court but we will ensure we resume shortly,” Kesse said.
The courts in the area may resume operations on Friday, depending on the unfolding situation.
