President William Ruto has appointed Douglas Kanja as the new Inspector General of the National Police Service, following approval by the National Assembly on Wednesday. Kanja, who was previously vetted and approved by the Senate, will succeed Japhet Koome, who resigned in July.
In a gazette notice, President Ruto stated, “I William Ruto appoint Douglas Kanja Kirocho to be the Inspector General of the National Police Service for a term of 4 years.” Kanja, the former Deputy Inspector General of Kenya Police, had been serving as Acting IG since Koome’s resignation.
After Kanja’s nomination, Deputy IG Gilbert Masengeli stepped in as Acting IG temporarily.
