Douglas Kanja Kirocho named as new Deputy Police IG

President William Ruto has appointed Douglas Kanja Kirocho as the Deputy Inspector-General of the Kenya Police Service.

The announcement was made through a Gazette Notice dated April 12, 2023.

“In exercise of the powers conferred by Article 245 (3) of the Constitution, as read with section 13 of the National Police Service Act, 2011, I, William Samoei Ruto, President of the Republic of Kenya and Commander-in-Chief of the Kenya Defence Forces, appoint— Douglas Kanja Kirocho to be the Deputy Inspector-General of the Kenya Police Service, with effect from the 12th April 2023,” reads the Gazette Notice.

Kanja emerged top after interviews by the National Police Service Commission last week.

He takes over from Edward Mbugua who retired from the service.

Kanja, a career police officer rose through the ranks within the GSU to take over as the commandant of the support unit in 2018.

Meanwhile, President Ruto has on behalf of the National Security Council noted changes effected by the National Police Service Commission within the senior ranks of the National Police Service.

In the changes, Gideon Munga Nyale is the Commandant, Kiganjo Police Training Institute, Eluid Kipkoesh Lagat is the Commandant in the General Service Unit while Ranson Lolmodoni is the Director of Operations.
